In this post, I continue to explain all facts to achieve an ideal university education. Readers that are interested in the first part are more than welcome to check the post titled "Pieces of Advice for the Ideal University Education - 1".
4. Experiments and Projects Must Be Given Priority
The rule is simple: No experiment, no science. No matter which discipline you study, either positive sciences such as physics or social sciences such as economics, you can not learn without conducting experiments. Obviously, no scientific experiments can be conducted in social sciences such as economics. Therefore, research projects become prominent. Let me give you a brief example of a finance project:
"Modeling Various Stock Market Indices and Developing a Trading Strategy that is More Profitable than Risk-Free Returns, Using R/Python as the Coding Language and Tableau as the Presentation Tool".
This is an extremely hard job. Millions of people aim to make profits in the markets using such trading strategies every day. But always keep in mind that learning is a painful, time-consuming, and challenging process.
5. At Least One Academic Publication Must Be a Prerequisite for Graduation
Students that are currently enrolled in a university may not like this. But, academic publications (especially international double blind-peer reviewed journals) are one of the tools to confirm that you have learned the topic well. Once you have completed your research and written the manuscript, it will be sent to different professors worldwide to evaluate your work. Keep in mind that, this process is anonymous. If your work is considered to contribute to the existing literature, it will be published in the next issue of that journal. In another post, I will explain in detail how to conduct well-prepared academic research and the main steps of making an academic publication.
No matter which discipline, implying publication rule as a prerequisite for graduation and setting the rules to comply with universal publication rule of thumbs may encourage students to publish their works (Such as, introducing the classical publication format of "abstract-introduction-literature review-methodology-results-conclusion-appendix" to students and explain them every step in details).
Last but not least, it must be always kept in mind that academic publications are not only beneficial for students. It also helps to increase the reputation of universities and to strengthen the scientific infrastructure of the country.
